- 25 Feb 2005 Diamond Jubilee of
Religious
Profession of Fr Dominic Meese, O.P. Joined by members of his brother's family, Fr Dominic Meese, O.P. celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of his first religious profession with the brethren at St Dominic's Priory, East Camberwell. Fr Dominic was born in Melbourne in 1926 and joined the Dominicans towards the end of the second World War. Professed on the 25 February 1945, he undertook his studies for the priesthood at St Dominic's Priory, East Camberwell before he was sent to the Angelicum for a Doctorate of Sacred Theology in Scripture. Since his ordination on the 20 March 1950, most of his priestly life has been spent in the Vicariate of the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. Much of the planning, infrastructure, and architecture bears his mark. So involved was Fr Dominic in the life of the Solomon Islands that he boasts: "You could arrive in the Solomon's without my knowing about it, but you couldn't leave unless I did!" Retired to Melbourne and only recently beardless, Fr Dominic enjoys a quiet retirement celebrating Masses, hearing the occasional confession and joining the rest of the brethren in community life. Ad multos annos, Fr Dominic! ![]() |
