13 February 2004 Two
novices receive the habit at St Laurence's,
North Adelaide. In the evening of the Feast of Blessed Jordan of Saxony (13th February 2004), the community of St Laurence’s Priory gathered for Vespers and the Rite of Reception into the Order of two men who were beginning of their novitiate. Despite the heat of 37 degrees (100 F) the evening was one of great joy as Mr Karl Emerick and Mr Dominic Joseph were clothed in the Dominican habit by the Prior, Very Rev. Kevin Saunders, O.P. The Prior asked these two young men: “What do you seek?”, to which they replied “God’s mercy and yours”. The Prior told the newly clothed men that “I therefore grant to each of you one year of probation for you to experience our customs and for us to test your ways. If it shall please you to live with us and if you manner of living is pleasing to us we shall receive you to profession; Otherwise, both we and you will be free to go our separate ways. Pledge yourselves, therefore, to bear this yoke willingly for the love of God and obey your Master in all things, as you would obey me.” Thus they were entrusted to the Master of Novices and began their novitiate year. ![]() |
