- 6 January 2004 Br Mannes Tellis, O.P. on pastoral semester.

While the Epiphany was being celebrated in many parts of the world, our brother Mannes Tellis, O.P. departed for his first pastoral semester as part of his initial formation.  Br Mannes spent six months in the Solomon Islands, part of the Vicariate, giving retreats, offering catechesis and providing support to the existing Dominican mission there.  He also joined the celebrations for the Silver Jubilee of First Profession of Br Michael Kisu, O.P. in the Shortland Islands.
On 4 June, Br Mannes returned to Camberwell, Victoria to resume his theological studies and continue to prepare for Solemn Vows.

The pastoral semester during initial formation provides a brother with an extended period of time whereby he may develop his pastoral skills and experience without compromising his studies.  It is also a time when a brother is placed in a house of the Province which will give him the experience of living in another community that is neither the Novitiate nor the Studentate.  The pastoral semester also gives the brother and the Formation Team a better idea of the areas of his formation that require further development.
Almighty God, Lord of the harvest of souls,

We ask You to guide and bless all who have gone forth to preach the gospel.
Endow them with the gifts of generosity and concern.
Send your Holy Spirit on them, that He may strengthen them in weakness,
comfort them in trials and direct their efforts.
May He open the hearts of their hearers to receive Your message.
Let Your revelation enlighten all minds for the salvation of souls,
and let Your love heal every heart and body for the happiness of each person.
May all people consciously acknowledge You and serve You by living the teachings of Your Son.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
Br Mannes Tellis, O.P.
